Bone Broth
Bone broth is a nutritious liquid made by simmering bones, vegetables, and seasonings for an extended period of time. It is a rich source of vitamins, minerals, and amino acids, making it a healthful addition to your diet.
- 2-3 lbs (907g-1361g) of bones (bone marrow, knuckles are my favorite) from grass-fed beef, poultry, or fish
- 1 large onion, chopped
- 2 carrots, chopped
- 2 celery stalks, chopped
- 4 cloves of garlic, minced
- 2 tbsp (30ml) of apple cider vinegar
- 1 tbsp (15g) of sea salt
- Fresh rosemary & thyme
- 1 tsp (2g) of black peppercorns
- 8 cup (1.9L) of filtered water
1. Rinse the bones and bake them at 400 F for about 15-20 minutes until they are golden
2. Add them to the inner pot of the Instant Pot.
3. Add the chopped onion, carrots, celery, minced garlic, apple cider vinegar, sea salt, and black peppercorns to the inner pot.
4. Add filtered water to the Instant Pot, ensuring the ingredients are covered.
5. Cover the Instant Pot and press the "Manual" button.
6. Set the timer for 150 minutes (2 1/2 hours) and make sure the pressure setting is on "High."
7. Once the cooking time is complete, allow the pressure to release naturally for 1 hour before using the quick-release valve to remove any remaining pressure.
8. Carefully remove the inner pot from the Instant Pot and strain the broth through a fine-mesh strainer into a large bowl.
9. Discard the solids and let the broth cool to room temperature.
10. Once cooled, transfer the broth to containers and store in the refrigerator for up to 5 days, or in the freezer for up to 6 months.
Enjoy your homemade bone broth!
